Required Skills
To thrive as a Junior Jive franchisee, you’ll need a unique combination of musical, educational, interpersonal, and business skills, including:
Music & Movement Skills
- Ability tosing on pitch and keep a beat
- Ability to move energetically with children
- Basic knowledge or willingness to learn music theory and percussion
Teaching Skills
- Ability to manage a classroom of young children effectively
- Flexible lesson delivery that adapts to children’s moods and needs
- A calm, gentle but firm approach to child behaviour
- Capacity to observe and assess developmental progress
Communication & Language Skills
- Professional and friendly communication with:

Do I need to be a qualified teacher or musician?
A minimum level of NQF level 5 qualification is required, as well as experience with children and a basic level of musical ability (accurate singing, rhythm) are essential. Training is provided.
How long does it take to get started?
Depending on your pace, most franchisees are up and running within 2–3 months of onboarding and training.
Is this a full-time or part-time business?
You decide! Many franchisees start part-time and grow into full-time roles depending on the number of schools they service.
Do I need to buy instruments and equipment?
Yes, you’ll need to invest in a percussion instrument set (~R15,000), a speaker, and a music player. A list of trusted suppliers is provided.
How much does it cost to become a franchisee?
Costs include the instrument kit, your own equipment, and a monthly curriculum fee. You’ll also need to budget for marketing and printing costs.
What kind of support will I receive?
You’ll receive one-on-one coaching, access to templates and resources, and marketing assistance. You’re never alone in the Junior Jive journey!
Can I operate in any area?
Franchise territories are available across South Africa. We’ll discuss your location preferences during your application.
Do I have to teach in both English and Afrikaans?
We encourage multilingual teaching, according to the language of instruction at the schools in your area.
