What Have
We Been Up To?

Baby Maestros (0-1 years)

Our Baby Maestros have been busy exploring music and movement in playful ways this term! We’ve been grooving to some fun moves and getting our little ones tapping claves to our “Hopping Chopsticks” song. In our “One Little Finger” song, we’ve focused on finer play, helping tiny fingers learn to move with purpose. We sang “I Have a Pet,” expressing our love for pets, and had a blast playing with bells. The little ones also enjoyed “The Animals on the Farm” song and “Chick Chick Chicken,” along with the ever-popular peek-a-boo game. Looking ahead, we’ll be diving into “Little Peter Rabbit,” exploring his song and one of his stories. We’ll also continue listening and creating farm animal and pet sounds and incorporating sensory play into our Listen and Create activities. It’s been a joyful experience watching our Baby Maestros engage and grow!

Maestros On The Move (1-2 years)

Our Maestros on the Move, aged 1-2, have been full of energy this term, especially when dancing around with Zippy! We’ve been having fun identifying different animal sounds and singing “I Have a Pet” to share our love for animals. The little ones have been rolling their arms and learning their body parts through the lively “There’s a Mouse Upon My Toe” song, as well as enjoying the classic “Chick Chick Chicken.”

As we continue, we’ll introduce the “Piggy Wig and Piggy Wee” poem and start exploring sound cylinders to develop their auditory discrimination skills. We’ll even show you how to create your own sound cylinder at home! Later in the term, we’ll bring out the castanets to help your child work on developing their beat and sense of pulse. It’s been a joy to see their progress as they grow and explore through music!

Mini Maestro's (2-4 years)

Our Mini Maestros, aged 2-4, have been actively engaging with music and movement this term! We’ve introduced body movement to music with the energetic “Run Run” song and enjoyed reading “Farm Chase” by Rod Campbell, where the children identified different animals and the sounds they make. Playing “Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone” has helped them learn to take turns and sing on their own. We also focused on playing our claves correctly during the “Tappy-Tap Claves” song, and the children said goodbye using their own homemade shakers—why not try making some with your child at home?

The class has loved the “Old Grey Cat” song, where they got to sing and act like the cat and the mouse in this story-based song. Looking ahead, we’ll be developing their language vocabulary and auditory perception through the “Oh Donkey” song and singing games. We’ll also explore the concepts of fast and slow (presto and largo) in our “Tortoise and the Hare” story and game. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growth as they experience music in so many fun ways!

Master Maestro's (4-6 years)

Our Master Maestros, aged 4-6, have been busy with some exciting musical activities this term! We’ve been playing a cup song version of “Bingo,” where the children learned to differentiate between rhythm and beat, expressing the rhythm through fun cup movements. The class also loved singing about the funny sounds animals make in the traditional song “Bought Me a Cat.” Through a variation of the “Head and Shoulders” song, based on an African American singing game, they explored different places around the world. We’ve enjoyed many singing games like “Bow-Wow-Wow” and “Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone.” Looking ahead, we’ll be diving into the story of “The Four Musicians of Bremen” and exploring “The Waltzing Cats” by Leroy Anderson. We’ll start with dramatization and later transition to telling the story through our instruments. It’s been wonderful to see how much the children are learning and enjoying their musical journey!
